Members in the News

Our members and their products are getting more media attention through their membership with APPMA than ever before. Since July 2003 we have been working with our new public relations firm MassMedia|Vanguard. We have seen great success through their efforts and look forward to working with them in 2004.

During the past six months we have not only been receiving coverage on the benefits of pet ownership, but are gaining additional exposure on the strength of the industry as well as showcasing our members and their products. We believe this new public relations direction will be of greater benefit to all of you. Read on to learn how you can become more involved.

Here are some examples:

  • More than 60 APPMA members' products have been shown and discussed on TV segments on network programs such as CBS, ABC, NBC and FOX in markets including New York, Washington DC, Chicago and San Diego.

  • Hundreds of APPMA member products have been included in daily newspaper features across the country through their participation in sending our PR firm product samples and information that they in turn provide to reporters and editors.

  • More than 305 million people have viewed our stories in newspapers, trade show publications, magazines, internet, radio and television.

  • APPMA's 2003/2004 National Pet Owners Survey and APPMA staff/public relations consultants have been quoted (or mentioned) in over 2,000 articles over the last six months.

  • We have distributed press releases to 20,000 members of the media on a variety of topics including; Halloween products and safety tips, Hot Holiday Gifts for pets, New Year's Resolutions for pets and healthy products, winter tips for pets, and Valentine's Day pet gift ideas.

  • We are also in the process of producing Public Service Announcements (PSAs) that are a part of a national campaign that will involve local communities and promote responsible pet ownership as well as build stronger brand recognition for APPMA member companies. The campaign is called PAL, Pets Add Life.

APPMA Announces New Marketing Coordinator

Jennifer Bilbao has been hired to serve as APPMA's marketing coordinator. Bilbao joins APPMA's recently restructured marketing department that serves to strengthen the association through increased awareness of APPMA and its members, and the development and implementation of coordinated marketing and communication strategies. Prior to joining APPMA, Bilbao worked in public relations at Avon Products, Inc. for the organization's "Avon Breast Cancer Crusade," and completed an internship at Nextel Communications, Inc. Bilbao earned degrees in communications and sociology from Boston College where she was listed on the Dean's List. Jennifer can be reached at jennifer@appma.org.
