Mission & Background Founded in 1958, APPMA is the leading not-for-profit trade association made up of over 1000 pet product manufacturers, their representatives, importers and livestock suppliers. Our membership consists of a diverse group representing both large corporations and growing business enterprises worldwide. APPMA's mission is to promote, develop and advance pet ownership and the pet products industry and to provide the services necessary to help its members prosper. To accomplish these objectives and to provide APPMA members with valuable benefits, the Association works hard to develop programs and services which serve our members’ unique needs. By conducting industry-related market research and holding educational seminars and teleconferences, APPMA helps keep you in the know about important industry information, and gives you the tools you need to make important business decisions. Global Pet Expo Global Pet Expo, the pet industry's largest annual trade show, is presented by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) and Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA). Global Pet Expo 2008 featured 796 exhibitors, 2,353 booths and more than 825 New Product Showcase entries. In a post show survey 89% of respondents found most, if not all of the products they buy at Global Pet Expo. In 2009, Global Pet Expo will take place February 12-14, 2009, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Global Pet Expo is open to independent retailers, distributors, mass-market buyers, and other qualified professionals. The committee also monitors and responds to legislation and regulations. Most recently, APPMA’s Government Affairs team played a key role in getting the Minor Use and Minor Species Animal Health Act (MUMS) signed by President George W. Bush. This is one of the most significant pieces of federal legislation to the pet product industry to be passed in recent history.
Promoting Pet Ownership & the Pet Industry In 2005, APPMA implemented the PAL (Pets Add Life) PSA Campaign. The PAL campaign is designed to encourage people to appreciate the value of pet ownership, teach people to be responsible pet owners, and promote the importance of pet ownership to good mental health, companionship and love. The PAL campaign delivers a wide variety of important pet related messages to a vast audience using Public Service Announcements, display ads, posters, brochures, and news stories. To further promote the pet industry and to more clearly define its goals and objectives, APPMA has played an integral role in establishing a Pet Industry Coalition, a group comprised of a collaboration of diverse leaders within the pet industry. While this group is in its infancy, it has identified key issues facing the industry and is currently taking steps to address those issues.
As a leader in the industry, APPMA looks forward to continuing to positively promote the benefits of responsible pet ownership and our members’ products, which make owning a pet a more enjoyable experience. At more than 1000 members strong and growing, we look forward to the coming year and to seeing you all at Global Pet Expo, February 12-14, 2009 in Orlando, FL! Value. Benefits. Success.
